Shirley Jean Ritchie, 82, Coffeyville, Kansas, died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Windsor Place Care Center, Coffeyville.
Jean was born June 12, 1928 near Nowata, Oklahoma to Carl Shultz and Mary (Queen) Shultz. She grew up in the Coffeyville area and was raised by her uncle and aunt, John and Bertie Archer, attending local schools and graduating from Field Kindley High School. Jean also attended Coffeyville Junior College. She married Joseph Webb in 1947. The couple would later divorce. Jean moved to Lake Jackson, Texas from 1950 – 58, then returning to Coffeyville, where she worked for Parkersburg Rig & Reel. She met Jay Ritchie and the two were married on December 26, 1959 at Miami, Oklahoma. The Ritchies made Coffeyville their home and Jean worked as a proof reader for City Publishing in Independence, Kansas, retiring in 1985, due to her health. She was a member of the Coffeyville First Baptist Church, the Salvation Army Auxiliary; Past Department President, Kansas, VFW Post 1022 Ladies Auxiliary (1983-84); and Past President of the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary. Jean was member of the Pink Ladies for 30 years. She enjoyed reading, knitting & crocheting; raising a flower garden and was an avid bowler.
Survivors are her husband, Jay of the home; one son, Joe Webb and his wife, Debbie of Carl Junction, Missouri; four daughters, Debbie Webb of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Paula Shaw and her husband, Chuck of Euless, Texas, Kristi Webb of Thornton, Colorado and Peggy Ramer of Houston, Texas; a step-son, David Ritchie and his wife, Nancy of Lake Hills, Texas; a step-daughter, Janice Ritchie of Edna, Kansas; a half-brother, Wayne Shultz; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a step-daughter, Carla Mavers.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with Rev. Ray Newman officiating. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be Wednesday, 9 am-8 pm. Memorials are desired to the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary, donations can be left at the funeral home.
